Keyword Analysis Research

Keyword Analysis Research – This first step to a successful web site.

When you've researched your subject and have set-up your web site, it is very easy to just start writing content without doing any keyword research. This is what the majority of inexperienced bloggers seem to do; they simply choose a topic and just start typing. This is a very bad idea. Keyword research is absolutely essential to a successful web site.

Why is keyword research so important?

In order to compete in any type of business you need to understand the demand for the product, know the competition, and of course understand the levels of income you can expect from making a sale. A blog business is no different and therefore shouldn't be treated any differently.

Keyword research, or any kind of market research, can be tedious and very time consuming, but the benefits gained far outweigh the effort required. You may even find that once you've completed your keyword research that there isn't a market for your subject, or there is just way too much competition.   These aren't the only advantages though, and if you don't perform any keyword research be aware that…

  • You won't have a clue on the number of searches that the article subject you are writing about is getting on the main search engines.
  • You won't have a clue on the amount of competition that the article has.
  • Unless you are very lucky, the article won't get a high ranking in the top search engines like Google and Yahoo because there are no good keywords to rank by.

Ultimately, if you want to make money blogging you need to know all of the above, otherwise there's little point in blogging and you will be wasting your time. It's the same in the real world. For example, would you place an order from a wholesaler for a bunch of random products that you hope to sell on ebay without first checking the competition, the consumer demand, costs, and profit margins first?

Also, remember that building a list of keywords will make building your blog categories much easier too. Good keyword focused categories on your blog makes choosing your article content easier as you've already researched the market. Good keyword focused categories also makes your site navigation easier for your users, and also helps with your search engines rankings.

Thorough keyword research can take several days for a new blog if you do everything manually. However, there are some great free tools out there such as the Google Adwords keyword research tool. There are also some great tools that you can buy, such as Keyword Elite, which is what I use in conjuction with Wordtracker. There are quite a few pay monthly subscription services such as Wordtracker, Nichebot, and Keyword Discovery. However, if you are just starting out then these subscription services may be too difficult to understand as they are mainly aimed at the professionals and are not recommended for beginners.

If you are a beginner then I recommend that you use the article resources on this site to understand how keyword research and analysis works before jumping straight into a paid monthly subscription. Keyword Elite has a one-off licence fee of $176 and gives you access to some great training videos on how to use the product successfully, which is why I always recommend it to beginners and Internet Marketing professionals. If you do purchase a Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery subscription service at a later date then Keyword Elite has built in support for both of them, allowing you stick with the interface and screens you already know.

If you purchase the right tools then keyword analysis research can be reduced to just a few hours per blog or web site, rather than several days, which is essential if you want to build up a web empire and concentrate on producing quality content.
